Marsh Climbs 5.3% to $188.01 After Beating EPS Expectations

Marsh rises 5.3% to $188.01 following premarket earnings against an EPS estimate of $1.96, gaining ground while broader indexes sit trapped below their gamma flips.

Marsh reported third-quarter financial results before the opening bell, setting off an immediate rally across its shares. The stock advanced 5.3% during the session to trade at $188.01, climbing cleanly away from its previous close of $178.50. The print landed against an EPS estimate of $1.96, carrying the $84.5 billion market cap broker well above its recent range. The single-stock surge unfolded against a backdrop where broader market breadth provided no tailwind. Edward Jones and Morningstar reported mixed performance as Wall Street kicked off third-quarter earnings season, noting erratic bond markets and selective corporate appetite. Beyond financials, Reuters and CaixaBank Research reported that an upside U.S. inflation surprise sparked an equity retreat, with headline CPI climbing 3.7% year-over-year while 10-year Treasury yields sat at 5.05% on our tape. That divergence between Marsh and the macro tape shows up directly in the index dealer books. While Marsh absorbed earnings flow and expanded higher, the broader market structure remains pinned in defensive territory. On our desk, SPY trades at 766.17, locked below its 774.86 gamma flip with dealers in short gamma. That positioning leaves the index vulnerable to amplified swings between its 765 put wall and 775 call wall, with an expected move of plus or minus 1.35% and skew at 2.8. QQQ reflects the same structural drag, trading at 718.55 beneath its 729.98 flip and sitting just above its 717 put wall. When benchmark indexes sit in short gamma, dealers do not buffer volatility by buying weakness; they chase the tape to stay delta-neutral. Marsh pushed higher on its own specific prints today, but it is doing so without the cushion of a supportive dealer regime across the wider floor.
