QQQ Tests Its 724 Put Wall as Big Tech Drags
With tech leading Thursday's equity slide, QQQ is pinned against its 724 put wall while dealers remain trapped deep in short gamma.

The 724 put wall on QQQ is where tech's afternoon selling meets dealer mechanics. Spot trades at 724.17, practically sitting on the major downside boundary while the gamma flip sits far overhead at 752.63. In that posture, dealers are short gamma, meaning they sell into downdrafts and buy into rallies, magnifying intraday momentum rather than dampening it.
The pressure arrives as big tech continues to pace the session's losses. MarketWatch reported that a major big tech ETF declined as Nvidia shares led the drop across the portfolio, while Benzinga noted defensive sectors led Thursday trading as technology trailed. TipRanks also carried comments from Nvidia's chief executive stating the company does not need to backstop CoreWeave as shares extended their slide. The resulting rotation has left tech tape fragile and vulnerable to acceleration.
On my read of the dealer book, QQQ's setup leaves little room for absorption. Spot sitting right on the 724 put wall means the largest cluster of protective downside positioning is actively being tested. If 724 fails to hold the line, dealers hedging short put exposure are forced to sell more underlying shares to maintain delta neutrality, accelerating slippage into a thinner book. The expected move for the session prices a ±1.69% band, and skew sits at 0.6, reflecting the continued premium paid for downside protection relative to calls.
The broader market reflects a split tone, with SPY at 770.21 also in short gamma below its 773.55 flip, though resting higher above its 765 put wall. IWM sits at 273.36, similarly parked right at its 273 put wall with dealers short gamma below 284. Across all three index books, the lack of positive gamma removes the usual shock absorbers that slow down afternoon trend days.
For QQQ, the immediate structural ceiling is the 735 call wall, but until price can reclaim ground toward the 752.63 flip, every intraday bounce remains a counter-trend move in dealer-pressed territory. What traders do around 724 is their own click, but the book is clear: the support level is under active pressure, and dealers have no mandate to cushion the tape.
