Speed matters in scalping, and it's easy to over-claim it. So here's an honest account of NoVo's latency: the dealer map redraws in seconds, not minutes, but it is not a co-located high-frequency-trading feed, and real-world network hops add genuine milliseconds. Both halves of that are true and worth understanding.
Where NoVo is fast
Compared to mapping levels by hand, NoVo is in a different category. On Analyst, the full dealer map on SPY, QQQ and IWM is recomputed every 60 seconds from the live options chain, so the gamma flip, the walls and the gravity levels you are reading are this minute's positioning rather than last night's snapshot. On Trader, that same map is drawn on a live candle chart that redraws roughly every five seconds, with every price change reaching the chart within about 50 milliseconds of the print — measured, not estimated. For a discretionary scalper, that is the speed that actually matters: the structure in front of you keeps up with the tape.
Where it isn't (and can't be)
Honesty demands the other side: NoVo is hosted software reading market data over the public internet, so every number on your screen has travelled a real network path to get there. That path has latency — milliseconds that a fast, thin market can move within. NoVo is not co-located at the exchange, does not compete with HFT market-makers on raw speed, and can't promise exchange-level immediacy. If your strategy depends on winning microsecond races, no retail tool (this one included) is built for that.
The map beats a hand-built one by a mile and won't beat an HFT firm by a nanosecond. It's fast where a discretionary trader needs it — and honest about where it isn't.
Why this honesty matters
Because your expectations should be right: NoVo's speed advantage is over building the picture by hand — the levels you would otherwise recompute at lunchtime and then trust for the rest of the day — not over the professional latency arms race. That's exactly the speed a SPY 0DTE trader needs, and it's real. But it means the level on your screen was true a moment ago, not a promise about the next tick, and NoVo won't pretend otherwise. Fast where it counts, honest where it doesn't — that's the standard.
