The morning auction
At the open, order flow is heaviest and price discovery is fastest. Institutions execute pieces of large orders, overnight positions get adjusted, and the imbalance between eager buyers and sellers gets resolved out loud. That's why the first 15–30 minutes carry the most volume and the widest ranges of the day — the market is doing its heaviest thinking.
Breakout vs. fade
Once the opening range is set, two broad stories tend to play out. In a breakout, price pushes decisively out of the range and trends — the auction found a clear winner. In a fade, price pokes beyond the range and gets rejected back inside — the extremes get sold, and the session rotates. Knowing which regime you're in matters more than the exact levels.
