What expiry deletes
At 08:00 UTC the front expiry settles and every position in it stops existing — along with its share of walls, its gamma, its pinning influence. The map redrawn at 08:01 is genuinely different: levels supported mostly by dying strikes are gone, and the surviving book’s shape decides what the day trades against.
The rebuild hour
What follows is repositioning: rolls completing into new expiries, overwriters re-selling their strikes, hedges recomputed against the smaller book. Concentrations re-form quickly where structural flows persist — which is exactly the tell: a wall that rebuilds at the same strike within hours is fed by standing flow; one that never re-forms was expiry furniture all along.
The trap this kills
Anchoring to yesterday’s levels past the reset is the recurring error — support respected at 06:00 can be absent by 09:00 with no trade having occurred, the mechanism behind many map-versus-tape confusions. The profile is a movie, and expiry is its hardest cut.
Reading it
Re-read the map after every 08:00, weight rebuilt levels over inherited ones, and treat the first post-expiry hour as discovery rather than confirmation. The level that matters is the one the SURVIVING book defends.
