Reading VWAP Slope as a Quick Intraday Trend Gauge
You don't need a trend indicator to know if SPY is trending. The slope of VWAP tells you at a glance, and it's already on your chart.

VWAP is usually treated as a level to trade against, but its slope is a free, fast trend gauge. Because VWAP is the volume-weighted average price of the session, the direction and steepness of its slope summarize what the day is doing — no oscillator required.
Reading the slope
Steeply rising or falling VWAP = a genuine trend day; the average price is marching in one direction, so respect the trend and trade continuation. Flat VWAP = balance / a range day; the average isn't going anywhere, so price is rotating — favor reversion tactics. A slope that's flattening after being steep is an early sign the trend is losing steam.
How to use it
Make VWAP slope part of your quick read: a glance tells you fade-or-follow before you even check the regime. Rising VWAP with price holding above it is a clean uptrend — buy pullbacks to the line. Flat VWAP with price crossing it repeatedly is chop — fade the range or stand aside. It's the fastest visual confirmation of what the net-GEX regime is telling you mechanically.
Steep VWAP: trend, follow. Flat VWAP: chop, fade or wait. The slope is a trend indicator you already have.
The caveat
Slope is a lagging summary — it describes what has happened, so it confirms rather than predicts (as all indicators do). Early in the session VWAP hasn't gathered enough volume for its slope to mean much; it firms up as the day builds. Use it as a quick trend sanity-check alongside the dealer map, not as a standalone trigger.
