Like a lot of people, I came to trading thinking the hard part was figuring out what to do — the right setup, the right indicator, the right edge. I read everything, I tested everything, and eventually I had setups that genuinely worked. And I still gave money back to the market. Not because the plan was wrong, because the moment real money was on the line, I stopped following it.
I hesitated on entries I’d already decided to take. I widened a stop to “give it room” instead of accepting the loss I’d planned for. I forced a trade after a red morning to win it back. I’d be sharp for an hour and sloppy by the afternoon. The plan was fine. The human executing it — me — was the leak.
The strategy was never the hard part. Doing the same disciplined thing, every single time, under pressure — that’s the part humans break on. I know, because I broke on it.
I tried the obvious fixes
Signal services just handed the work back to me — I still had to size it, place it and hold the stop, which was exactly where I failed. Rule bots were rigid and went stale the moment the market changed character. Copy bots wanted account access or my money, which I wasn’t willing to give a stranger. None of it closed the gap between a good plan and the disciplined execution of it.
The obvious answer is a trap
The tempting next step was full automation: take the decision away from me entirely, and let a machine be the discipline I wasn’t.
Sit with that idea for one honest minute and it falls apart, because my actual problem was never the execution of my bad trades. It was that I kept taking trades with no edge in them, and a machine that executes a no-edge trade perfectly has executed a no-edge trade perfectly.
Automating the click would only have made me faster at the thing that was costing me money.
What actually helped
Two things, and neither of them was automation.
The first was seeing the structure. There is an enormous amount happening under a chart — where dealers are positioned, which levels they have to hedge around, where the market damps moves and where it amplifies them. No human can watch all of it at once and I had been trading as though it did not exist. Once it was drawn on the chart in front of me, live, a lot of my worst trades stopped being tempting. They looked like what they were.
The second was keeping score honestly. NoVo writes down what it thought, and then grades itself against what actually happened — including when it was wrong. That record is public on this site. It is uncomfortable to publish and it is the single most useful thing I built, because it is very hard to talk yourself into a setup when you can see what that setup has actually done.
I stopped trying to build something that would stop me making the trade. I built something that makes the trade honest with me before I make it.
A mirror, not a cage
That is what NoVo is now. It reads the tape and the dealer map no human can watch at once, draws it live as it moves, tells you what it has seen this setup resolve to before, and shows you its own record while it does it.
What it does not do is trade for you. There is no auto-entry, no bot, no strike being picked on your behalf. You look at the map, you decide, and you place the trade in whatever broker you already use. The decision stays yours, which is the only place it has ever belonged.
The one rule I refused to break
NoVo never touches your brokerage account. Not “it can only place trades” — it does not connect to it at all. There are no API keys to hand over, nothing to authorise, and no way for a bug on my side to reach your money, because there is no connection for it to travel down.
I wanted that for myself first. I was never going to hand my own account to a black box and hope, so I did not build something that asks you to.
What I won’t tell you
I won’t show you screenshots of impossible returns or promise you’ll make money — no honest tool can, and anyone who does is selling you something else. Trading carries real risk, and reading structure well does not make you right; it makes you better informed about what you are choosing.
What I will promise is that the record is real and published, and that this whole journal exists to show you exactly how the read is built — no black box, no hand-waving.
If you have ever watched yourself take a trade you already knew was thin, NoVo was built for you. It was built by someone who did exactly that, tried to automate his way out of it, and found out that was not the answer either.
