Bitcoin Slides Below Its 83,486 Gamma Flip
A wave of liquidations pushes Bitcoin into deep short dealer gamma as options positioning amplifies broader downside pressure across the majors.

The crypto tape cracked overnight as forced liquidations met an unhedged options book. CoinDesk reported that nearly $1 billion in crypto bets were liquidated as major tokens slid, while The Block noted Bitcoin dropping under $81,000 against a backdrop of risk-off sentiment in Asian equity sessions. Across the broader macro complex, CoinDesk also reported that Fed rate uncertainty weighed heavily across risk assets, with South Korea's Kospi plunging 8%.
That selloff transferred directly into the derivatives book, pushing the majors into short gamma across the board. I read Bitcoin spot at 81,205.43, down 2.35% over the past 24 hours. The decline puts spot well below its 83,486.84 gamma flip. Below that threshold, dealers shift from padding volatility to pressing it, selling underlying inventory into weakness to keep their delta books flat. The net GEX on Bitcoin now sits deeply negative at -54,912,603, with max pain sitting higher at 83,000.
Ethereum reflects the identical structural breakdown. Ether changed hands at 2,372.58, shedding 5.03% on the session and slipping beneath its gamma flip at 2,427.32. That leaves Ether dealers short gamma with net GEX at -1,572,149, while max pain sits overhead at 2,500. Solana followed the same path, printing 103.02 for a 4.06% drop, submerged below its 113.56 flip with net GEX running at -232,709. XRP dropped 4.29% to 1.31, also trapped under its 1.399 flip with net GEX marked at -53,814.
This fragility in digital assets is not happening in a vacuum. The US equity book sits in the exact same regime. SPY is pinned in short gamma at 767.34 beneath its 777.22 flip, QQQ trades at 720.37 against its 737.85 flip, and IWM sits at 272.05 against a 283.47 flip. When both equities and crypto trade beneath their zero lines simultaneously, the shock absorbers disappear from both order books.
Positioning does not dictate where price goes next, but it dictates the environment you trade in. With Bitcoin and Ether dealers caught short gamma, any additional headline flow gets magnified rather than cushioned until spot recovers the flip.
