Educational only, not financial advice. Broker features, options-approval requirements, 0DTE availability, and fees change and vary by account — verify current details on the broker’s own site. NoVo is independent and not affiliated with the brokers named.

Interactive Brokers is the professional’s venue — global markets, every asset class, and Trader Workstation, a platform with a learning curve as real as its power. A 0DTE SPY scalp on IBKR is fast and cheap once configured, and bewildering before that.

Trading permissions, not levels

IBKR grants trading permissions per product: request US options in Client Portal and answer the experience questions. Long calls and puts are the baseline grant. Confirm same-day expirations show on your account before the session (does my broker offer 0DTE SPY).

The chain in TWS

In TWS, OptionTrader (or the web platform’s chain) on SPY lists today’s expiration first (SPY lists a 0DTE every weekday). The data is raw and unfiltered, so read the quote matters more here than anywhere; pick a strike a responsive near-the-money strike and ignore the far-OTM lottery ticket.

Presets keep you honest

Place the order as a limit, one contract while learning the ticket. IBKR order presets can attach a stop automatically at fill — configure that once and set your stop by structure, not by feel, because decay is fast on 0DTE, a hard stop beats a mental one, and TWS will happily let you drift into the close unwatched if you never told it otherwise.

IBKR assumes you know what you are doing. That assumption is the product, and the risk.

The part no broker gives you

A professional-grade pipe moves your order faster; it does not read the market for you on the way through. That’s where NoVo fits: it maps the dealer levels on SPY, QQQ and IWM and keeps a scored record of what that structure has tended to mean. It does not connect to Interactive Brokers or any other broker — you place every trade yourself. Either way: start small, and remember levels are structure, not signals.
