QQQ Closes at 728 Trapped Below Its Gamma Flip

Big Tech remains locked in short gamma into the close as dealer positioning deepens the squeeze across major index books.

The closing bell left tech pinned under dealer pressure. QQQ settled the session at 728, sliding 0.13% on the day while remaining submerged well below its gamma flip at 736.82. That kept the tape on the wrong side of the line, where dealers operate as volatility accelerators rather than shock absorbers. Even with dip-buying commentary hitting the wire—Benzinga reported Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the company receives fresh chip orders almost daily—the options book refused to loosen up. Instead, QQQ spent the session testing the floor of its range, keeping dealers hedged short gamma between the 725 put wall and the 735 call wall. The session finished inside the expected move of plus or minus 1.37%, but the structural posture entering tomorrow remains defensive. When spot sits beneath the flip, dealer hedging mechanically presses downside momentum rather than dampening it. Skew printed at 3.4, reflecting a persistent premium on downside protection despite the rebound attempts in beaten-down artificial intelligence suppliers. The broader market presented a fractured picture. SPY managed a modest gain, closing at 771.79 for a 0.28% rise, but it too sits trapped beneath its gamma flip at 776.51 in short gamma territory. Its bounds held tight, caught between the 765 put wall and the 775 call wall within an expected move of plus or minus 0.82%. Small caps carried the headline gains as IWM rallied 1.37% to close at 275.08, yet its book remains similarly pinned below an elevated flip at 282.59, right against its 275 put wall. The same friction extended into digital assets. Bitcoin closed its cash session look at 82,300.11, down below its own gamma flip at 83,374.39 with net GEX negative at negative 25.17 million. Decrypt noted Bitwise CIO commentary arguing Bitcoin benefits regardless of artificial intelligence market outcomes, but the spot options book continues to reflect dealer friction across the major strikes. All three major equity books enter tomorrow morning in short gamma. That leaves price sensitive to overnight flows, with QQQ facing immediate resistance at 735 and dealers positioned to amplify rather than cushion any early moves.
