Ask two systems what the small-cap perp did over the weekend. One says there is no liquid perp on the Russell 2000 or on IWM, so there is nothing to read. The other gives you a percentage. Only the first is a markets Super Intelligence.

Things that are not there

Markets are full of gaps that look like they should be filled. A few are worth knowing by heart.

IWM has no perp and no stock token. The perp venue serves price history and funding history, and it does not serve open-interest history. Robinhood publishes a live quote and that day’s mint and burn volume for each stock token, and no history. Most stock tokens have no on-chain pool deep enough to price.

Some gaps are momentary. NoVo’s implied open measures a perp against its own print at the cash close. If the perp has no print at the bell, there is no figure. An SI should say that, and should not borrow a nearby print to make one.

Why guessing is tempting

A language system is built to produce the next plausible sentence. A question about a small-cap perp has a plausible-sounding answer, and the system can write it without effort. Nothing inside the sentence marks it as invented. The problem is described in agent hallucination and market data.

A trader cannot see the difference either. The guess arrives in the same voice as the reading. That is why the refusal has to come from the SI. Nobody downstream can catch it.

What a good refusal contains

“I do not know” is the weak version. A useful refusal has three parts. It names the exact thing that is missing. It says why: the market does not exist, the venue does not publish it, or the record is not long enough yet. Then it offers the nearest thing it does have.

So the small-cap answer becomes this. There is no small-cap perp. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 perps are trading and here is where they are. IWM’s dealer map is as of the last options session. Three true statements in place of one invented one.

When history is the missing piece

The hardest case is a question about change over time. If nobody kept the record, nobody can answer. NoVo’s collector has recorded every perp’s open interest since 4 October 2026, which is why the history the venue does not serve now exists from that date. Before that date there is nothing, and a markets SI says so.

Missing versus stopped

A fact that does not exist is different from a feed that has gone down. The first is permanent and the second is temporary. An SI should tell you which you have hit. The second case is covered in what a markets SI says when a feed stops.

Dr. NoVo, NoVo’s Financial Markets SI, is built to name the empty cell. Ask him for something that is not there and the answer says what is missing.
