The best crypto gamma and dealer-positioning tools in 2026

This category was nearly empty three years ago and is not any more. Here is the field as it stands, including the ones cheaper than us.

Crypto dealer positioning — gamma by strike, the call and put walls, the zero-gamma flip — used to be something you computed yourself from a Deribit feed. It is now a real market with free entrants at the bottom and institutional providers at the top. This is the field as we found it, checked against each vendor’s own pages rather than a directory.

How to compare them

Four questions separate these products more than price does.

Which books are included. Crypto options liquidity is concentrated, so a provider using one venue produces a clean number about a partial market and one aggregating several produces a broader number that may be dominated by thin books. Neither is wrong; not saying which is.

Strike level or aggregate. A single GEX number is cheap to compute and hides the shape. The wall, the gap and the flip only exist per strike.

Is there a recorded past. A live reading with no history cannot be expressed as a percentile and cannot produce a base rate. Positioning is computed from a book that no longer exists, so a reading nobody stored at the time is gone permanently — this is the one thing in the category that money cannot shorten.

What happens when it breaks. Ask what an outage looks like from your side. A feed that returns an empty book during a collector failure is reporting a calm market that did not happen.

Where we sit in this

We are not the cheapest and we are not the deepest. BackQuant is $49 against our $79 for overlapping crypto capability, and Amberdata holds far more raw history than we do. What we have that the others do not is the equity dealer map on the same key, an analyst that reads the map and cites its sources, and a freshness contract on every single reading. Whether that is worth thirty dollars over BackQuant depends entirely on whether you trade the index tape too.

If it does not, we have said so on their comparison page rather than hiding it here.

Every product in this category including ours has something you can look at without paying. Our free tier is 20 MCP tools with no key at all, plus the public market data pages. Use the free tiers to compare the engineering — whether readings carry an age, whether errors are machine-readable, whether an outage returns a refusal or a zero. Those do not change when you pay.

Comparison for information only, not financial advice. Competitor details and prices were verified against each provider’s own public pages in September 2026 and may have changed since; check with each provider before buying. NoVo is our product.

FAQ

Common questions

What is crypto gamma exposure?
An estimate of how much hedging flow a price move forces on options dealers. Positive net gamma means their hedging damps moves; negative means it amplifies them. It describes the size of moves rather than their direction.
Which crypto gamma tool is cheapest?
Of the paid products, BackQuant at $49/mo as of our September 2026 check. There are free Deribit-derived options too, with narrower coverage and no history.
Does anyone offer both crypto and equity gamma on one API?
We do, on one key with one schema. BackQuant has equity gamma in their Terminal rather than their API; MenthorQ models both but their API is limited to futures and SPX. Check each vendor, since this is exactly the sort of thing that changes.
Do I need a paid tool at all?
Not to learn the concept. The free Deribit-derived maps are enough to see the shape. You need a paid one when you need history, coverage beyond BTC and ETH, or a number you can rely on during the sessions that matter.
