Ask a general AI assistant on a Sunday where SPY will open and it has nothing live to answer with. It can restate Friday’s close or go looking for a headline. With the right connector attached, it can read a market that is actually trading.

The two tools

NoVo’s MCP server does this with a pair of paid lookups. get_stocks_onchain returns the stock and index perps on Hyperliquid’s builder books, Robinhood’s stock tokens, and the index perps’ move since the last cash close. get_robinhood_trending returns the Robinhood Chain trending list, the coins that entered it for the first time, and the new launches holding real depth. If you are new to the idea, start with what an MCP server is.

What the perp tool returns

Pass a symbol and you get that name’s perp and its stock token. Pass SPY or QQQ and you get the index perp that tracks it. Leave the symbol out and you get the largest of each. Every perp carries its mark, its day’s change, funding as a yearly rate, open interest, volume and the premium to its oracle. A block called implied_open carries each index perp’s move since the cash close, and the same measure for the seven largest index names.

The caveats ride in the payload

A tool that returns a number and no context invites the model to oversell it. So the context travels with the data. history.span_hours says how long NoVo’s own open-interest record is, so an agent cannot call a thirteen-hour average a weekly one. Each stock token carries a price_basis, because outside market hours the quote goes wide and its midpoint stops being a price. And the tool’s own description tells the model that IWM has no perp, so it does not borrow the S&P 500’s move for small caps.

What a good answer sounds like

The agent should say the S&P 500 perp is up a tenth of a percent since Friday’s close, that it is a market price on another venue, and which large names are carrying it. It should not promise where the cash market prints on Monday. If your agent phrases it as a prediction, tell it not to. The data supports the first sentence and not the second.

The trending tool

This one returns the list with rank, market cap, pool depth and pool age for each coin, keyed by contract. It marks which coins are new to the list. It also says, in a note the model can read, that the list comes from the public chain feed and was matched against the Wallet’s own list, and that it is not read from inside the app. An agent repeating it should say trending on Robinhood Chain.

If the watch behind it has stopped, the tool answers with an error and a retry time. It never returns an empty list, because an agent would read an empty list as a quiet market.

Putting it beside a broker

Both tools read. Neither can place an order. Attach them next to a broker’s own connector and the agent has a read side and an action side that are separate by construction, which is the arrangement in pairing a market-data connector with your broker.
