The closing bell does not end the day for a markets Super Intelligence. It changes what there is to read. Some figures stop where they are. Others keep moving and now have a fixed point to be measured from. The questions worth asking change with them.
What rests and what carries on
The dealer map rests. Net GEX, the flip, the walls and the expected move come from the options market. After the close they describe the book as it last stood.
Stock token supply rests as well, because minting follows market hours. Token quotes stay live and go wide.
Stock and index perps keep trading. They run around the clock, weekends included. The on-chain pools that price a few stock tokens keep going. Robinhood Chain does not pause, and its trending list keeps changing.
The close also creates an anchor. NoVo measures each index perp against the perp’s own price at the cash close, taken from the 15-minute candle that ends at the bell. The method is in since the cash close: the perp anchor.
Question one: where did the day finish against the map
Ask where SPY closed against its flip and its walls. This is the last live reading of the dealer map. It is the one that stands until the next session, so it is worth having in words.
Question two: are the perps anchored
Ask whether the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 perps each have a print at the bell. If a perp has no print at the bell, there is no figure, and the SI should say that plainly. If the prints are there, the measure has begun.
In the first minutes the move since the close is small by construction. The reading becomes more informative as the evening goes on. It stays a market price on another venue throughout.
Question three: which names
The same measure is taken on the seven largest index names. Ask which has moved most since the bell. After-hours news tends to land on single names first, and the perp on that name is one place where the reaction trades. What a perp can and cannot tell you in these hours is in a stock perp when the cash market is closed.
Question four: what has no evening read
Ask what is missing. IWM is the standing answer. It has no perp and no stock token, so there is nothing to set beside its resting map. The reason is in why there is no implied open for IWM.
Then stop asking
After those four, the evening does not need watching. NoVo sends a push the first time an index perp is half a percent from its close, and at each further half percent, once per direction. Setting that up is covered in setting up the off-hours perp push.
Dr. NoVo, NoVo’s Financial Markets SI, reads both groups of figures. Trader shows the implied open on its Perps & Futures tab while the cash market is shut.
