A model with a market connector has two ways to answer. It can call a tool and read what comes back. Or it can write from what it absorbed in training, which is old and has no date on it. The model chooses, and your wording pushes it one way or the other.
Why the model sometimes guesses
A general question sounds like a knowledge question. Ask what dealer gamma means for SPY and the model hears a request for an explanation. It can give one without touching a tool, so it does. Nothing went wrong. You asked for a concept and got one. The trouble starts when the explanation includes a level that sounds current.
Name the thing and the time
A specific question sounds like a lookup. Ask where the SPY call wall is right now and the model has to fetch it. Three things make a question specific: a ticker, a named reading, and a word about time. Right now, today, as of the last pass. Any of them tells the model its memory will not do.
Ask for the source in the same breath
Add a short tail to the question: tell me which tool that came from and how old it is. This does two jobs. It makes a recalled answer impossible to give, because there is no tool to name. And it gets you the freshness stamp without a second message. The case for this habit is in an answer you cannot check is an opinion.
Use the words the tools use
A model matches your question against tool descriptions. If you say call wall, put wall, gamma flip, expected move, funding or open interest, the match is easy. If you say where the big money is sitting, the model has to translate first, and it may translate wrong. You do not need tool names. You need the vocabulary of the readings, which is covered in what an AI does with a dealer map.
One question at a time
A long message with four questions tends to get one tool call and three paragraphs of filler. Ask for the levels first. Then ask about volatility. Then ask what the two mean together. Each step gives the model a clear reason to look something up, and you can see each call as it happens.
Set it once
If your AI app lets you keep standing instructions, write the rule down once. For any market figure, call a tool, name it, and quote the reading’s age. If no tool returns it, say so. That one paragraph does more than careful phrasing ever will.
On NoVo’s server the split is simple. The data tools return numbers. ask_novo puts a plain-English question to Dr. NoVo, the Financial Markets Super Intelligence, when you want interpretation. Both are described on the MCP & API page.
