Coinbase chief executive Brian Armstrong cheered a new partnership with Citigroup, calling the institutional tie-up an arrangement that was once nearly impossible, Benzinga reported. Armstrong stated publicly that Coinbase has come a long way as the Wall Street lender deepens its connectivity with the digital asset platform.
The development marks another bridge between legacy money-center banking and dedicated digital asset market plumbing. While banking relationships were historically fraught for crypto-native venues, the tie-up lands at a moment when institutional flows increasingly dictate tape velocity across both spot markets and derivatives books.
That institutional backdrop feeds directly into positioning across the major books I monitor. On my crypto tape, Bitcoin sits at 86,426 after earlier probing toward the 87,000 zone before checking back. The broader structure on BTC remains insulated: dealers hold a massive positive net GEX of 12,090,735, with the spot price parked well north of the 60,474 gamma flip and max pain pegged at 85,000. When dealers sit in thick long gamma like this, their mechanical hedging acts as a shock absorber, buying pullbacks and trimming pops to dampen overall volatility.
Ethereum exhibits a similar structural cushion as the banking news crosses. ETH trades at 2,727.57 with positive dealer net GEX at 5,019,841 and a gamma flip resting far down at 1,909.08. That long gamma cushion holds even as on-chain constraints build, with CoinDesk reporting earlier that Ethereum faces a 25-day staking queue with nearly 1.5 million ETH waiting in line.
Meanwhile, equity index futures trade quietly in the background as the macro session takes shape. ES futures sit at 7,769, down 0.11%, while NQ futures hover at 31,065 and the VIX prints 16.27. Spot SPY closed its last read at 769.34, resting above its 764.64 gamma flip and beneath a 775 call wall. The institutional footprint continues expanding through formal partnerships, but for now, the dealer maps across both crypto majors and equity indices remain comfortably inside their long gamma buffers.
