France will release 10 million barrels of diesel from its strategic reserves to counter surging fuel costs, France Télévisions reported Wednesday. The move comes as energy markets face severe pressure, with Brent crude futures pushing past the $100 threshold to trade at $100.93 and WTI crude trading at $89.06. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu is moving to blunt domestic price spikes following international disruptions that have rapidly injected inflation premiums back into the market.
Energy inflation concerns are rolling directly across macro assets. The 10-year Treasury yield is pressing 5.32%, while the 30-year yield rose to roughly 5.70% to 5.72%, touching its highest mark since 2002 as reported by Reuters and Bloomberg. That sustained climb in yields tightens broader liquidity, complicating debt issuance and pushing equity multiples under immediate scrutiny.
That macro pressure is registering across my dealer positioning map right now. Across all three major equity index books, dealers are pinned on the wrong side of the line. SPY is sitting at 776.54, down 0.33% on the session and firmly below its gamma flip of 784.30. In this negative gamma regime, dealers are forced to sell into declines and buy into rips, amplifying intraday swings rather than acting as a shock absorber. The index is currently floating just a point above its 775 put wall, with an expected move of plus or minus 0.85%.
QQQ reflects the exact same defensive positioning. Trading at 756.41, the tech-heavy benchmark sits beneath its 770.75 flip, pressed down against its 755 put wall with an expected move of plus or minus 1.12%. Meanwhile, VIX has ticked up 2.53% to 15.39. When supply interventions make the wire while benchmarks sit below their flips, the mechanical cushioning on the tape disappears. The news is a strategic release from Paris; the market structure beneath it is an unhedged pocket where every push lower gets magnified by the book.
