Intel Reaffirms Role in Elon Musk's Terafab Project

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan confirms participation in Elon Musk's 1-terawatt Terafab venture, defending its domestic foundry pipeline against TSMC speculation.

Intel Chief Executive Officer Lip-Bu Tan confirmed that the company will remain an active manufacturing partner in Elon Musk's multi-venture Terafab project, according to reporting from Bloomberg News and Reuters. The confirmation clears weeks of market speculation that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. was positioned to fully displace the American chipmaker within the venture. The Terafab initiative, coordinated across Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, is designed to power emerging artificial intelligence data centers and autonomous robotics hardware. According to Bloomberg, the joint project targets an ultimate computing output capacity of 1 terawatt per year distributed across two primary production facilities. Ahead of the announcement, Intel shares closed down 3.18% at $112.49 following reports that Musk had conducted preliminary technical discussions with TSMC executives. Retaining a central manufacturing role in Terafab protects a primary domestic anchor client for Intel's multi-year foundry turnaround strategy. Speculation of losing the account threatened to derail investor confidence in the commercial viability of its domestic fabrication buildout. For Musk, keeping Intel involved diversifies advanced packaging exposure away from pure geographic concentration in Taiwan as geopolitical friction along key supply corridors persists. The confirmation lands as broader equity books remain heavily stabilized across major indices. My equity dealer map shows QQQ spot hovering at 758.79, well above its gamma flip at 752.08 in long gamma territory. That positioning keeps dealers functioning as structural shock absorbers across large-cap tech, buying into dips and fading sharp upswings between the 749 put wall and the 762 call wall. In addition, front-month Nasdaq futures are holding steady at 31,427 with an intraday expected move on the cash index limited to 0.9%. Intel's ability to maintain its partnership inside Terafab removes an immediate overhang from the hardware complex. With dealers comfortably long gamma across the underlying index, the broader tech tape has sufficient dealer hedging insulation to absorb single-name supply chain shifts without violent second-order volatility.
