SpaceX Enters Mobile Telecom with Starlink Carrier Expansion

SpaceX plans major mobile carrier operations via Starlink spectrum expansion while index options books show tech slipping into short gamma.

SpaceX is positioning Starlink to operate as a major U.S. mobile carrier after acquiring key radio frequency licenses for satellite-to-cell services, according to reporting from CBS MoneyWatch and ShareCast. The operational push introduces direct satellite connectivity into consumer mobile markets, challenging legacy telecommunication providers with a new capital-heavy competitor. In tandem with the expansion, hardware supplier Filtronic secured a $68.1 million follow-on contract to supply Cerus E-band Solid State Power Amplifiers to back the network infrastructure, ShareCast reported. The prospect of satellite-delivered cellular capacity bypasses traditional cell-tower economics, putting fresh pressure on established telecom balance sheets as markets weigh infrastructure return on investment against orbital competition. The development lands as broader equity benchmarks show divergent dealer positioning across the major indexes. On our equity book, QQQ sits at 751.37, trading beneath its 752.1 flip in short gamma territory. Below that flip, dealers act as an accelerant rather than a shock absorber, selling into declines and buying into rallies, with the immediate put wall at 750 and the call wall up at 755 against an expected move of plus or minus 0.56%. By contrast, SPY trades at 778.6, remaining above its 776.18 flip in positive gamma where dealer hedging cushions intraday movement between a 770 put wall and a 780 call wall with an expected move of plus or minus 0.35%. IWM also holds long gamma at 279.01 above its 278.38 flip. With tech-heavy exposure slipping below its zero line, telecom and communications headlines enter a book where dealers are positioned to amplify intraday price swings rather than absorb them.
