Strategy Buys 334 Bitcoin for $28.7M as Holdings Top 848,000

Michael Saylor's Strategy purchased an additional 334 bitcoin for $28.7 million, according to filings reported by The Block and Decrypt, pushing the firm's total treasury stash beyond 848,000 BTC. The acquisition lands alongside a reported $21 billion third-quarter gain and a $176 million repurchase in STRC shares.
The headline expansion continues Strategy's routine accumulation playbook, but the spot market is absorbing the purchase against a visibly heavy dealer profile. On our tape, bitcoin trades at $86,326, down 0.18% on the session, while the primary book pins spot beneath its $86,805 gamma flip. Net GEX sits deeply negative at -13.07 million, marking a tape where options dealers are forced to sell into downward drift and buy into strength to hedge their short gamma exposure. Max pain for the primary book clusters lower at $85,750, leaving the immediate distribution skewed toward volatility rather than clean upward absorption.
That friction matters because headlines of corporate balance sheet buying frequently meet retail assumptions of immediate upward pressure. The tape shows the opposite reality: when spot sits underneath the flip in negative territory, liquidity providers do not act as shock absorbers. Instead of dampening moves, dealer hedging accelerates underlying displacement until open interest recalibrates or spot punches back through the flip line.
Across the broader equity complex, the macro backdrop offers little decisive spillover. SPY holds long gamma at 770.56 above its 767.27 flip, but tech is already skating on the edge with QQQ sitting at 751.95, directly below its 752.74 flip in short gamma territory. With benchmark 10-year Treasury yields hovering at 5.30% and VIX climbing nearly 4% to 15.92, macro liquidity remains tight enough to test whether passive spot accumulation can counteract short gamma acceleration. Corporate treasuries can execute purchases at will, but the dealer map determines how the tape handles the inventory.
