Bitcoin Stalls Below 87000 as Gamma Flips Positive
CoinDesk reported repeated rejections at $87,000, but Bitcoin sits safely above its $85,320 gamma flip as dealers remain long gamma.

The wire spent the overnight hours pointing fingers at the tape. CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin keeps getting rejected at $87,000 while equity benchmarks hover near their own highs. Benzinga also reported on an unnamed firm taking second place on the global Bitcoin corporate holdings leaderboard, eclipsing Tesla, SpaceX, and Coinbase. The narrative machine wants an explanation for why spot cannot push through $87,000, but looking directly at the book tells you what actually matters: dealers are not running away.
Bitcoin sits at 85,901.70, down 0.4% over 24 hours. Crucially, that places spot comfortably above its gamma flip at 85,320.34. Net GEX on the BTC dealer book reads positive at 6,502,537.41, with max pain sitting right beneath the current tick at 85,750.00. That positive gamma regime means dealers act as the market shock absorber rather than an accelerant. They buy weakness into the flip and sell rallies into the overhead resistance. The $87,000 level is sticky not because liquidity dried up, but because dealer hedging actively dampens the tape when spot wanders too far from the anchor.
Ethereum paints an identical structural backdrop. CoinDesk reported a last-minute fix on the Glamsterdam test network ahead of a planned capacity upgrade. On the screen, ETH trades at 2,715.19, down 0.23% over 24 hours. The gamma flip sits well below spot at 2,665.38, backed by 10,811,722.24 in positive net GEX and max pain pinned at 2,710.00. Like BTC, ETH is locked inside a stabilizing regime where intraday extensions get faded by design.
Across the remaining majors with real options books, the picture is split. Solana trades at 120.54, clinging to long gamma with its flip down at 119.53. Avalanche trades at 11.35, hovering above its 11.18 flip. On the other side of the ledger, Hyperliquid sits at 93.30, trapped below its 95.34 flip in negative gamma territory with net GEX at -4,072.00. XRP also remains in negative gamma at -38,911.78 GEX, even with spot at 1.5039 above its 1.0980 flip.
Equity proxies are providing zero headwind. SPY trades at 776.27, QQQ at 757.05, and IWM at 283.78, all positioned comfortably in long gamma above their respective flips. With index dealers dampening macro moves and crypto majors pinned above their flips, spot is behaving exactly as positioning dictates: quiet, contained, and rejecting tops without unraveling.
