SPY Pins Against Its 775 Call Wall

With earnings reactions absent from the tape, tech mega-caps steer index positioning as dealers pin SPY squarely against overhead resistance.

The earnings calendar sits entirely empty this afternoon, leaving the equity tape to digest corporate headlines and dealer positioning without the usual quarterly earnings surprises. While Benzinga reports retail accounts have been trimming mega-cap tech holdings like Amazon, Alphabet, and Tesla, the index book shows options dealers firmly in control of the tape. SPY trades at 774.70, up 0.66% on the session and pressing directly into its 775 call wall. The structure across equities remains decidedly long gamma, with SPY sitting comfortably above its 768.80 gamma flip. In positive gamma territory, dealers act as market shock absorbers, buying dips and selling into pops. That mechanical hedging tends to mute realized volatility and pull price toward strikes with heavy open interest. With the 775 call wall sitting just thirty cents overhead and the expected move running at plus or minus 0.61%, the index book is hedged to compress intraday swings rather than facilitate a runaway breakout. Tech reflects the same stabilising posture. QQQ sits at 756.08, well above its 750.03 flip, framed between a 760 call wall and a 740 put wall, with an expected move of plus or minus 0.97%. Small caps in IWM tell an identical structural story, trading at 283.14 above a 277.93 flip, bounded by the 285 call wall. Across all three major indices, long dealer gamma remains the dominant gravity. Over on the crypto book, major assets are grappling with the opposite side of the line. Bitcoin trades at $85,741.04, down 0.13% over 24 hours, parked beneath its $86,444.84 gamma flip in negative dealer gamma. When spot trades below the flip, dealers are positioned to amplify momentum rather than cushion it, creating a much twitchier backdrop than the pinned index book on equities. What you do with this structure is your click.
