OpenAI Cuts Annualized Revenue Outlook by $20 Billion
A reported reduction in OpenAI's annualized revenue targets dragged tech benchmarks lower, pushing major index books into short gamma.

The Financial Times reported that OpenAI disclosed to investors that its annualized revenue is nearing $50 billion, a sharp revision from earlier expectations around $70 billion. The downgrade quickly spilled across the semiconductor and software sectors, with Bloomberg and CNN noting subsequent declines of 3% in Nvidia and 6% in Intel and Oracle.
The revenue miss arrives against an already brittle tape. Technology names absorbed broad selling into the close, leaving Nasdaq futures down 1.28% to 31,001. At the same time, crude oil futures pushed higher with Brent trading at $103.70 per barrel, sustaining macro pressure across duration-sensitive equities.
That combination hit index dealer positioning immediately. In our own book, QQQ sits at 748, having dropped well beneath its gamma flip at 754.63. That places dealers in short gamma, where hedging mechanics flip from dampening volatility to accelerating it. Instead of buying weakness, desk hedging requires selling into declines to remain delta-neutral, widening the expected intraday drift. QQQ's nearest lower anchor is now the 742 put wall, carrying an expected move of 1.2% with skew elevated at 3.5.
The pressure is not isolated to tech alone. SPY trades at 774.49, sliding below its 775.28 flip into short gamma as well, flanked by a 767 put wall and a 780 call wall. Small caps took the steepest positioning blow: IWM trades at 277.8, resting directly on its 277 put wall with its flip sitting overhead at 281.03.
When structural floors give way alongside headline revenue revisions, the buffer disappears. With dealer books tilted short gamma across all three major index products, the market loses its built-in shock absorbers just as tech multiples face fresh scrutiny.
