The Close
QQQ Closes Deep in Short Gamma Below Its 755.20 Flip
Tech led the cash close lower into negative territory while dealers across SPY, QQQ, and IWM ended the session hedged short gamma.

The closing bell left tech firmly under dealer pressure. QQQ settled at 747.58, down 1.34% on the day and well below its 755.20 gamma flip. That keeps the tape in short gamma territory, where dealers are forced to sell into weakness and press moves rather than absorb them. Today's drop stayed within the priced expected move of plus or minus 1.14%, but it parked spot uncomfortably close to the 742 put wall entering tomorrow's session.
The broader market offered little relief. SPY closed down 0.42% at 773.93, slipping under its own 775.06 flip into negative gamma, flanked by a 767 put wall and a 780 call wall with an expected move of plus or minus 0.7%. IWM barely moved on a percentage basis, finishing off 0.05% at 277.57, but it spent the bell pinned against its 277 put wall with its flip sitting overhead at 280.95. When all three major equity books close beneath their flips, the shock absorber is entirely gone from the floor.
That equity drag pulled risk appetite lower across digital assets as well. NewsBTC reported that spot Bitcoin ETFs bled $484.9 million in outflows, led by redemptions at BlackRock. Bitcoin tracked the broader risk-off tone, dropping 2% over the last 24 hours to trade at 81,691.31, sliding deeper beneath its 83,650.65 gamma flip with net GEX sitting at -$39.34 million. ETH followed suit, falling 4.15% to 2,467.88 against a 2,587.78 flip. Both majors now sit well below their max pain levels of 84,000 and 2,620, respectively.
Energy strength compounded the macro drag through the afternoon. Front-month WTI crude futures gained 2.79% to settle near 90.74, while Brent pushed up 3.19% to 103.40. Meanwhile, the 10-year yield held near 5.23% and the VIX added 2.19% to reach 15.41.
Heading into tomorrow's open, dealers across the board are hedged to amplify volatility rather than dampen it. If buyers cannot reclaim 755.20 on QQQ and 775.06 on SPY early, the put walls remain the primary structural targets below. What happens at those levels is the market's call, not mine.
