Semiconductor Slump Drags QQQ Below Its 753.80 Flip
Tech shares slide into the open on rising yields and crude spikes, pulling QQQ beneath its gamma flip into accelerating short-gamma territory.

Premarket selling across semiconductors is dragging the broader tape lower heading into Wednesday's opening bell. TipRanks noted weakness across Nvidia, Broadcom, and Marvell early this morning, while Benzinga reported that higher crude prices and climbing bond yields are creating head winds for the semiconductor complex. With the 10-year yield up at 5.32% and WTI crude futures jumping 4.81% to $92.53, growth names are absorbing the immediate pressure.
The equity book shows exactly what that selling did to dealer positioning. QQQ entered the open trading at 753.65, slipping just underneath its 753.80 gamma flip. That shift puts dealers into short gamma. Above the flip line, dealers function as natural shock absorbers by buying declines and trimming advances. Below it, their hedging mechanics turn around: they sell into weakness and buy into strength to maintain balanced books, widening intraday ranges and removing the cushioning usually present in positive gamma regimes. For tech, the nearest downside backstop is now the 750 put wall, against a daily expected move of plus or minus 0.96%.
That dynamic is not isolated to the Nasdaq. Across the board, every major index is opening on the defensive side of its structure. SPY sits at 774.62, short gamma beneath its 775.45 flip, with its put wall down at 767 and an expected move of plus or minus 1.17%. Small caps are running even deeper beneath their boundary: IWM trades at 275.86 against a 277.87 flip, hovering right along its 275 put wall with a heavy 1.8 skew.
Crypto dealers are matching that defensive posture. BTC trades at 82,228.21, pinned firmly below its 84,254.42 flip with net GEX deeply negative at -42.38 million. ETH is similarly stranded under its 2,609.76 flip at 2,528.36.
When dealers are short gamma across equities and crypto simultaneously, the market lacks its usual intraday dampeners. If QQQ fails to reclaim 753.80 early, the tape faces an accelerated path toward the 750 wall, while how you manage exposure around these structural boundaries remains entirely your own click.
