Apple is under pressure premarket after Nikkei Asia reported the company lowered iPhone 18 Pro orders amid soft demand, according to TipRanks. The weakness comes as other hardware names show premarket gains, with TipRanks reporting upticks in Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom. That split across mega-cap tech lands squarely on the Nasdaq options book, where the structural margin for error is razor-thin.
QQQ enters the open at 753.06, sitting beneath its gamma flip at 755.54. That keeps dealers in short gamma territory, where their mechanical mandate is to press intraday direction rather than absorb it. Selling forces hedging sales, and buying forces hedging purchases. Overhead, the 755 call wall aligns directly with the flip, forming an immediate ceiling. Downside support rests far wider at the 740 put wall, with the session pricing an expected move of plus or minus 1.04% and elevated skew at 2.3.
SPY tells a completely different story. Spot sits at 776.48, well above its gamma flip at 770.69. Dealers there remain in long gamma, acting as shock absorbers between the 767 put wall and the 780 call wall, with an expected move of plus or minus 1.29%. The broad market retains dealer padding against volatility, even as small caps in IWM join tech in short gamma, trading at 278.19 below a 279.44 flip.
Across the crypto desk, the major books are largely holding their stabilizing zones. Bitcoin trades at 83,042.84, keeping positive net GEX above its 82,311.09 flip while spot hugs max pain at 83,000. Ether sits at 2,498.02, also maintaining long gamma above its 2,461.58 flip. For tech equity traders, however, the line in the sand is clear at the opening bell: until QQQ can reclaim 755.54, the regime favors expanded intraday range.
