Microsoft crossed the $4 trillion market capitalization mark after Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella announced what he termed the company's biggest bet yet on its own silicon. First Squawk broke the milestone valuation across the wire, following comments from Nadella reported by Yahoo Finance and coverage from CNBC detailing Microsoft's plans to expand reliance on homegrown artificial intelligence chips to lessen its dependence on Nvidia. TipRanks also reported the company plans to launch a new AI microchip in 2027 and expand its Azure Maia infrastructure into multi-gigawatt deployments.
The headline marks a historic milestone for megacap tech, but beneath the valuation print, the broader equity complex is dealing with a split tape. Nasdaq futures sit down 0.59% at 30,924 while front-month 10-year Treasury yields hold near 5.24%. That rates pressure continues to pin tech dealer books against key structural lines, keeping intraday hedging active.
On our desk, QQQ is pinned in short gamma territory at 746.10, sitting well below its gamma flip at 757.30. When spot trades under the flip, dealers are forced to press moves rather than cushion them, selling into weakness and buying into rips to keep books balanced. QQQ is currently suspended between its 742 put wall and its 755 call wall, with an expected move of plus or minus 1.16%. Despite Microsoft's single-stock push, the wider index options complex has not reclaimed the positive gamma cushion that would allow dealers to absorb shocks.
By contrast, SPY remains on the stable side of its book at 778.01, holding above its 774.16 gamma flip with the call wall overhead at 780. But with tech options positioning tilted short gamma, headline spikes in index heavyweights are meeting immediate dealer friction. Until QQQ spot reclaims 757.30, intraday rallies in megacap names will have to fight through a book positioned to amplify volatility rather than damp it. What traders do with that tape is their own click.
