Semiconductor Stocks Slide in Broad Industry Selloff
A synchronized pullback across chipmakers and storage providers pushes tech positioning into short gamma.

Selling pressure hit the semiconductor complex this morning, with chipmakers and data storage names sliding in tandem across the board. Deltaone reported widespread weakness throughout the group, citing Marvell dropping 4.2%, Applied Materials shedding 3.2%, AMD down 3.0%, and Intel lower by 3.0%. Memory and storage equipment providers took the sharpest hits, with Western Digital plunging 6.5%, Seagate falling 6.1%, SK Hynix down 4.8%, and Micron dropping 4.0%.
That pocket of weakness is not staying confined to single-stock tapes. The selloff in hardware directly dragged the tech complex, where Nasdaq futures fell 0.85% to 30,637. When the heaviest components in the index lose their bid together, the options book takes the impact almost immediately.
My read on QQQ shows the tape crossing over into short gamma. Spot is sitting at 743.29, which puts it underneath the 744.82 gamma flip. The index now sits between a 740 put wall and a 748 call wall, with skew marked at 2 and an expected move of plus or minus 0.92%. Below the flip, the mechanics change: dealers shift from acting as shock absorbers to matching the direction of the flow. Instead of buying dips to rebalance delta, short gamma forces market makers to sell into weakness, widening the intraday distribution and adding momentum to slides.
Meanwhile, the broader market remains fractured. SPY holds at 778.47, still sitting comfortably above its 773.46 flip in positive dealer positioning. IWM is also holding long gamma at 277.88 against a 275.71 flip line. That divergence leaves tech isolated in the volatile regime while the rest of the market acts cushioned. How you manage risk in tech names is your own decision, but beneath 744.82 on QQQ, dealers are structured to accelerate the tape rather than brake it.
