Treasury Yields Hit 24-Year Highs Following Sticky Services Data

A multi-session debt selloff pushed the 30-year yield to 5.702% after services inflation reaccelerated, reshaping rate expectations across sovereign debt.

Long-term U.S. sovereign debt deepened a multi-session slide, driving yields to levels not recorded since 2002. As reported by Reuters, Business Standard, and Investing.com, benchmark 10-year Treasury yields climbed as high as 5.349%, while the 30-year yield reached 5.702%. The latest catalyst landed via the Institute for Supply Management, which showed its Services PMI printing at 54.9 alongside a multi-year high in the prices-paid component. Persistent service-sector inflation has forced fixed-income desks to confront long-duration paper at a time when borrowing costs refuse to moderate. The repricing altered near-term policy assumptions. Investing.com reported that market-implied odds for an immediate Federal Reserve rate hike dropped sharply to 23%, down from 71% a week earlier. Traders are backing away from expectations of near-term central bank action, leaving the long end of the curve exposed to raw issuance and stubborn pricing pressures. On our own tape, the 10-year yield sits at 5.27%, down 0.83% on the session, but the structural elevation across the curve remains the prevailing narrative across credit markets. Higher sovereign yields elevate corporate debt refinancing hurdles, widen mortgage rates, and steadily compress equity valuation multiples. Sustained borrowing costs north of 5% test whether balance sheets can absorb pressure without the central bank stepping in to ease terms. Commodity and currency markets are absorbing the move in parallel. Our tape tracks the Dollar index at 101.83, while front-month Brent futures trade at $98.25 and WTI sits at $87.85. Elevated long-term yields and near-triple-digit crude combine to keep input costs heavy across the broader economy. Whether equity benchmarks can continue to ignore the Treasury move remains the open question. With long borrowing costs anchored at multi-decade peaks, debt markets are demanding higher compensation for duration, forcing every corporate capital stack to carry a real cost.
