The Federal Aviation Administration instructed US commercial airlines to exercise caution when operating in or near Saudi Arabian airspace, Reuters reported. The regulator cited escalating regional security threats tied to ongoing military operations alongside widespread interference with aircraft navigation systems.
This advisory follows a series of direct infrastructure strikes across the Gulf corridor, including a deadly attack on a Saudi airport that killed 12 people and injured more than 300, according to earlier wire disclosures. Heightened military activity across key regional transport routes has pushed aviation and maritime risk premiums sharply higher over the past 24 hours.
On our tape, front-month crude futures reflected the immediate macro tension. Brent futures last traded at 103.01, down 1.63% on the session, while WTI crude sat at 90.20, down 1.8%. That follows Brent pushing toward the $105 threshold earlier as shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz faced explicit interdiction threats. S&P 500 futures hovered at 7,881, up 0.26%, and Nasdaq-100 futures traded at 31,203, up 0.3%.
Across the index option books, the immediate equity reaction shows a clear split in dealer positioning. SPY trades at 778.6, remaining on the long gamma side of its 776.25 flip line, framed by a 770 put wall and a 780 call wall with a tight expected move of plus or minus 0.35%. Long gamma leaves dealers acting as mechanical shock absorbers, buying weakness and selling strength to dampen intraday volatility.
QQQ tells a much more fragile story. Spot sits at 751.37, pinned just beneath its 752.1 gamma flip inside short gamma territory. With the QQQ put wall sitting right at 750 and a call wall at 755, dealers are positioned to amplify directional moves rather than cushion them. Any escalation that drives headline shocks back through tech will find no dealer bid underneath QQQ until that 752.1 flip is reclaimed.
