Trump Declares Immediate Energy Ceasefire Between Russia and Ukraine

A surprise energy infrastructure truce announced by Donald Trump arrives while index positioning leaves equity dealers trapped in opposing regimes.

Donald Trump announced an immediate energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, stating that both nations have agreed to halt attacks on energy infrastructure. According to wire dispatches from Deltaone and FirstSquawk, the declaration ordered both parties not to break the truce, though official confirmations from Moscow and Kyiv have not crossed the tape. Reuters reported earlier that Trump criticized strikes on Russian oil infrastructure just after announcing a Russian diesel supply pact, even as the International Energy Agency urged members to accelerate diesel reserves to ease strained physical markets. The headlines hit an equity complex that is split right down the middle in dealer structure. In my read of the board, SPY and QQQ are trading on entirely different instructions. SPY sits at 778.57, positioned in long gamma above its 776.15 flip line. For index dealers holding the broad tape, positive gamma turns them into automated shock absorbers, selling pushes toward the 780 call wall and padding any headline pullback into the 770 put wall. That dynamic compresses realized moves, keeping the headline expected move pinned tight at plus or minus 0.35%. Tech tells an opposing story. QQQ trades at 751.27, trapped below its 751.99 flip level. That puts tech dealers into short gamma. When dealers sit short gamma, their mandate inverts: rather than damping volatility, hedging requirements force them to press the tape in the direction of the break, selling weakness toward the 750 put wall or chasing strength into the 755 call wall. The wider plus or minus 0.56% expected move on tech reflects that exact instability. Over on small caps, IWM trades at 278.94 in long gamma just above its 278.30 flip, boxed tightly between its 275 put wall and 281 call wall. Across digital assets, Bitcoin sits at $82,967 on our tape, backed by positive dealer positioning with net GEX at 11.38 million and spot safely clear of its $82,093 flip. The geopolitical truce announcement offers a sudden narrative shift, but whether the tape follows through depends on market plumbing. If tech cannot reclaim its flip line, dealer selling will amplify any headline disappointment.
