QQQ Tests Its 745 Put Wall in Deep Short Gamma
Tech shares slide further below their 760.25 gamma flip, leaving dealers pressing momentum directly into the 745 floor.

The tech tape is testing its floor. With spot printing 746.71, QQQ is driving directly toward its 745 put wall, and the surrounding book is doing nothing to brake the slide.
The gamma flip sits well overhead at 760.25. When price trades below that line, dealers operate in short gamma territory. In that posture, dealers act as an accelerant rather than a shock absorber. Instead of buying dips to balance inventory, their hedging mechanics require selling underlying shares as prices decline and buying as they rise. That turns ordinary order flow into wider swings.
That mechanical pressure stands in clear contrast to the headlines crossing the desk. TipRanks noted strong initial order chatter around Apple's upcoming hardware, while Benzinga reported positive analyst reiterations across major brokerages. Microsoft also drew buying interest following reports on its proprietary AI silicon push. Yet single-stock headlines have failed to pull the broader tech complex out of its hole. On the broader tape, front-month Nasdaq-100 futures sit down 0.54% at 30,941, while VIX has ticked up 2.63% to 15.23.
The rest of the equity complex shows how isolated the tech pressure remains. SPY trades at 778.08, comfortably above its 772.80 flip and pinned between a 775 put wall and a 780 call wall in positive gamma. IWM similarly sits in long gamma at 278.45 against a 275.94 flip, resting right on its 278 put wall. In both books, dealers remain positioned to pad intraday excursions. QQQ is the lone index book where the stabilizer is completely detached.
With QQQ's expected move pegged at plus or minus 0.79%, the 745 strike represents the primary concentration of downside open interest on the session. A clean break beneath 745 removes the last visible concentration of dealer puts, leaving the book unhedged into thinner air below. Conversely, reclaiming stability requires pushing back through the 755 call wall before the 760.25 flip can even enter the conversation. What traders do around the strike is their own click; the book simply shows where the padding ends.
