Eurozone inflation accelerated to 3.8% year over year in September, climbing well past the 3.6% consensus projection and jumping from August's 3.2% print, according to Eurostat data reported by Reuters. Core inflation ticked up to 2.5% over the same stretch.
The surge in consumer prices reflects renewed pressure from the energy complex, where reports noted that escalating conflict in the Middle East has revived volatility in oil and gas benchmarks. That macro pressure is spilling directly into fixed income markets across the Atlantic.
That persistent rate overhang is writing the tape on equity desks, particularly across mega-cap technology. On my board right now, QQQ sits at 748.12, pinned just beneath its gamma flip at 748.39. That minor gap carries real structural consequences for the tape: sitting below the flip leaves dealers in short gamma. In short gamma, dealers do not pad price swings by absorbing moves; they hedge by selling dips and buying rallies, which tends to amplify intraday chop and widen realised ranges.
The broader board shows the cross-asset split. SPY trades at 767.94, maintaining a perch above its 765.71 flip and leaving index dealers hedged as shock absorbers between a 765 put wall and a 770 call wall. Tech is the pocket carrying the strain. With QQQ pinned beneath 748.39, the overhead 750 call wall caps near-term expansion while the downside floor sits down at the 730 put wall, framing an expected move of plus or minus 1.32%.
Until rate markets absorb persistent inflation prints and let yields cool, tech positioning remains on the defensive side of its zero line. As always, the map shows where dealers must move; what you do with the tape is your click.
