Bitcoin Holds 85,000 as Dealers Turn Shock Absorbers

SEC clearance of leveraged crypto ETPs hits the tape while Bitcoin sits firmly above its 84,230 flip, keeping dealers in stabilizing long gamma.

Investing.com reported that the SEC cleared the first 3x leveraged crypto ETPs, with Bitcoin hovering near $85,000 on the news. The tape confirmed that spot: my desk clocked Bitcoin at 85,040, up 0.33% on the session, after a print of 85,149.39 earlier in the hour. The wire calls that a policy milestone, but the book tells the mechanical story. At 85,149, Bitcoin sits well above its gamma flip at 84,230.37. Net GEX is solidly positive at roughly 12.28 million, and max pain sits at 85,000. In plain terms, dealers are long gamma. When price rises, they sell; when price dips, they buy. They act as the market's shock absorber, keeping volatility contained and moves cushioned as long as spot holds above that 84,230 threshold. If spot crosses below it, their mandate flips and they start pressing direction instead of dampening it. For now, the tape remains anchored near that 85,000 pin. The broader crypto book is split along its own lines. Solana is also positioned on the stabilizing side, trading at 121.01 above its 120.53 flip with positive net GEX and max pain at 120. 24/7 Wall St. noted that crypto ETFs pulled in $10 billion during the third quarter, with Solana seeing expanding interest. That inflows story aligns with a disciplined dealer map on SOL. Ethereum, however, is dealing with a very different setup. 24/7 Wall St. reported three straight days of ETF outflows following a $690 million week. On my map, ETH trades at 2,702.16, sitting under its flip at 2,718.57 with negative net GEX of -2.58 million and max pain at 2,710. Below that line, dealers are short gamma, meaning they must hedge by chasing dips and amplifying moves rather than fading them. Headlines describe institutional adoption, but positioning determines how the tape handles the flow. Bitcoin has dealer padding; Ethereum does not.
