Ether Drops Below Its 2589 Flip as Liquidation Flow Mounts

Ether slides under its gamma flip to 2498 following an aggressive liquidation flush that hit derivative desks six times harder than Bitcoin.

Ether is fighting its dealer architecture this morning after a sharp flush tore through open interest. CoinDesk reported that Ether derivative positions were wiped out at six times the rate of Bitcoin across a 1 billion dollar liquidation cascade, leaving structural scars across the crypto options book. That leverage wash pushed Ether straight out of its stabilizing zone. Spot on ETH trades at 2498.13, sitting well below its gamma flip at 2589.37. Net GEX on the asset registers at -1.19 million, placing dealers firmly in short gamma. In this posture, market makers are no longer insulating intraday volatility by buying pullbacks and selling rallies. Instead, their hedging mechanics require them to press underlying moves, selling as spot softens and buying only as it recovers. Max pain sits above at 2520, leaving the near-term tape untethered. Bitcoin took the same macro crosswinds with significantly less internal damage. Investing.com reported Bitcoin slipping toward 82000 under ongoing Treasury yield pressure, while CoinDesk noted spot bounced around 82000 as geopolitical anxieties cooled and crude retreated. On my tape, BTC trades at 82487.38. It also sits on the negative side of the ledger with net GEX at -1.57 million, but spot remains within striking distance of its 82725.72 flip level, with max pain at 83000. The difference between the two majors is the depth of the fracture. BTC is hovering within reach of dealer neutrality, but ETH surrendered its 2589.37 waterline entirely during the forced liquidation cycle. When dealers are short gamma by more than 1.19 million, every liquidity gap gets wider and sharp moves tend to feed on themselves rather than mean-revert. AVAX and SOL echo that vulnerability, trading at 10.39 and 110.14 against negative net GEX books, each sitting pinned under their respective flips at 9.68 and 112.40. Positioning does not dictate price trajectory, and the order flow will dictate when buyers step into the vacuum. But as long as ETH trades beneath 2589.37, dealers are positioned to amplify volatility rather than soak it up. The structure remains defensive until spot reclaims the flip.
