Shell has started sending operational personnel back to several of its major Gulf of Mexico facilities as conditions begin to clear. The company confirmed it is actively redeploying staff to its Mars, Olympus, Ursa, Vito, and Appomattox offshore platforms, according to wire alerts carried by FirstSquawk. The producer had previously evacuated non-essential staff and curtailed selected output ahead of Hurricane Isaias, which tracked through energy corridors in the Atlantic and Gulf margins.
The operational reset comes as crude prices remain elevated across both sides of the Atlantic. On our tape, front-month WTI crude futures trade at $91.85, up 0.39% on the session, while Brent crude sits higher at $104.72, up 0.42%. Restoring offshore crews is a standard operational sequence once storm tracks abate, allowing operators to run visual inspections, test subsea links, and bring shut-in production back to normal pipeline flows.
The broader market backdrop shows limited direct spillover from the offshore restarts, though energy exposure remains an active input for macro pricing. S&P 500 futures trade up 0.56% at 7,860, while SPY trades at 778.57, up 0.6% on the day. The index sits in long gamma territory above its 776.22 flip, positioned between a 770 put wall and a 780 call wall, where dealers operate as natural shock absorbers and lean against intraday extension.
In contrast, tech exposure reflects a different dealer setup. QQQ sits at 751.27, trading in short gamma below its 751.99 flip level. That position leaves tech exposed to wider intraday ranges as dealers sell down moves and buy rips, framed by a 750 put wall and a 755 call wall. While energy infrastructure normalizes offshore, broad market positioning remains divided along the zero line.
