QQQ Tests Its 742 Put Wall as Tech Gamma Stays Short
Tech shares drift beneath their gamma flip while the earnings calendar clears out, leaving dealers hedging into weakness.

The tech tape is searching for footing without earnings prints to direct traffic. With no fresh corporate reports landing after the morning slide and no upcoming reporters on the immediate calendar, the index is trading on its internal mechanics. When single-stock corporate headlines thin out, positioning takes over the driver's seat.
That mechanics check shows tech dealers on the wrong side of the line. QQQ spot sits at 743.08, parked right above its 742 put wall and well below the 747.67 gamma flip. That short gamma regime changes dealer incentives across the desk. Instead of buying weakness and selling strength to pad the tape, dealers are forced to sell into down moves and buy into rips to stay hedged. The expected move for the contract sits at plus or minus 1.31%, with skew bid up to 2.5 as protection stays expensive relative to calls.
Broader equity books tell a split story. SPY holds spot at 777.81, lingering above its 776.77 gamma flip with its put wall at 774 and call wall at 781. The expected move there prices a narrower plus or minus 0.78%. IWM also remains in positive territory, trading at 276.78 against a 276.29 flip, directly on top of its 276 put wall. But the Nasdaq futures point lower at 30,766, down 0.43% on the session, keeping the pressure clustered squarely in tech.
Elsewhere on the desk, single-stock narratives are mostly forward-looking rather than earnings-driven. Benzinga carried comments from Jordi Visser arguing that Micron is not close to peak earnings while pointing capital toward optics and digital assets. Those headline claims offer narrative flavor, but they do not change the immediate options architecture.
Without an earnings catalyst to reset implied volatility, QQQ remains bound by its dealer map. Holding the 742 put wall keeps the slide orderly, but crossing deeper beneath it leaves dealers with an open mandate to press the tape lower until real demand shows up to absorb the supply.
